Top health experts in the U.S. warn actions we take this Labor Day weekend could either soften or worsen the coronavirus blow this fall.
CNBC reports coronavirus cases went up after Memorial Day weekend and continued to climb after the Fourth of July holiday.
Coronavirus cases are down 38% across the country and hospitalizations are down 37%.
Health officials say to control coronavirus this fall, personal responsibility is going to be very important during Labor Day weekend. This means wearing masks in public, social distancing, frequent hand washing and avoiding public crowded areas.
Dr. Anthony L-T Chen, director of health at Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, said the department is encouraging people to think of other ways to spend the holiday without gathering in large groups.
Pierce County has a campaign called “Labors of Love,” and they’re encouraging people to skip the parties and do something for your neighbor or community. One idea is to organize a food drive or a community service project.
“There are many things that we can do that are fun and enjoyable and allow us to be outdoors while also making sure we are not doing unnecessary trips or being around large groups of other people,” said Chen.
