Ivar’s Mukilteo Landing closed Wednesday after reports of a norovirus-like illness in people who dined at the restaurant.
The restaurant plans to clean and sanitize before they serve any more customers.
A Snohomish Health District statement said it’s unclear if the illness, which was associated with feelings of nausea, was caused by food, or if an individual contaminated restaurant surfaces or staff. The reports came on Saturday, April 14.
A lab confirmation of the illness is not available because of the short duration of symptoms, according to the health district.
None of the people affected required medical care.
The Snohomish Health District is reminding people that restaurants, schools, daycares, and public places are spots where germs can spread quickly, so take precautions. Those include washing hands, washing fruits and vegetables, not preparing food for others if you are sick, keep children home who are sick, and clean and sanitize surfaces.
"Our disease investigators and food safety program rely on the public to notify us when they have become ill and are concerned it may have been caused by food they either prepared or ate at an establishment," said Dr. Mark Beatty, health officer for the Snohomish Health District in a statement.
Norovirus, often mistakenly called the stomach flu, spreads from an infected person, contaminated food or water, or contaminated surfaces.
If you think you got sick after eating in any restaurant or a water source, please contact the Communicable Disease Surveillance line at (425) 339-5278.
