UW Medical Center named best hospital in Wash.

The University of Washington Medical Center was named the best hospital in Washington as well as being ranked nationally in U.S. News 2013-14 rankings for top medical centers.

U.S. News has released its 2013 rankings for hospitals nationwide, with one Washington hospital earning a national ranking.

The University of Washington Medical Center was named the best hospital in Washington as well as being ranked nationally. UWMC has three specialties that rank in the top 10 nationwide: cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, and rehabilitation.

Evergreen Health Medical Center in Kirkland, Wash. and Providence Sacred Heart in Spokane, Wash. were second and third on the list, each with 10 high-performing specialties.

Joining UWMC on the list were three other University of Washington Medicine hospitals. Harborview Medical Center is fourth in the state, Northwest Hospital and Medical Center is ninth in the state, and Valley Medical Center is 14th.

U.S. News publishes their list as a way to help patients help select where to receive care. Data from more than 4,800 hospitals nationwide was analyzed to build the lists.
