TACOMA, Wash. — It's the opening day of the long-awaited Mc Menamins Elks Temple in downtown Tacoma. What sat in disrepair for decades is now a 45-room hotel, a concert venue, and home to five new restaurants and bars.

Brian McMenamin told us it's one of their biggest renovations yet, "The building was in really poor shape and it had been let go for a while. I think it almost killed us, that was a long time, but I think what we ended up with was great."
In place of the old swimming pool is now a tiki bar called The Old Hangout. There you'll find a waterfall that starts at the ceiling and cascades down int pool, and every so often ... there's thunder and lightning.
It may well be the biggest renovation for Tacoma since Stadium High School, and it's very impressive.
