While most areas were getting rain Monday morning, several south Puget Sound cities were waking up to snow.
Rain was moving in most areas in Western Washington early Monday morning, but cold air trapped in some areas brought light snow to the Kitsap Peninsula, Hood Canal and the Cascade foothills. There was enough snow on the ground to delay some school openings.
But it won't last very long; that snow will change to rain by mid-morning.
"Those areas may accumulate a couple of inches of wet slush snow before it changes," said KING 5 Meteorologist Rich Marriott. "Rain showers will decrease this afternoon with some sun breaks."
It's another story in the mountains. WSDOT expects over a foot of snow to fall in the passes, and Marriott says snow will be heavy at times Monday. Currently, chains are required over Snoqualmie Pass.
Not a good day to travel Snoqualmie. Over a foot of snow forecasted today and chains required. https://t.co/u6KXO6zLCK
