CUSTER, Wash. - A female driver died and a Washington State Patrol trooper was injured when a vehicle crashed into the trooper's patrol car as it sat parked along Interstate 5.
The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. Friday on northbound I-5 near Custer. The trooper had stopped his vehicle on the side of the freeway to respond to a rollover crash and a car crashed into him as he sat inside.
The trooper was taken to an area hospital for treatment and was later released.
Axtman said the female driver in the car that hit the patrol vehicle was unresponsive and died.
Identities have not been released.
It's not known if weather was a factor in the crash.
Custer is about 15 miles north of Bellingham.
