LAKEWOOD, Wash. — One person is dead after a shooting that involved a Pierce County Sheriff's deputy Wednesday afternoon, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.
Sgt. Darren Moss with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department said the incident began around 11 a.m. when deputies attempted to stop a stolen vehicle near 96th Street and Steele Street in Parkland.
Moss said the deputies were able to deflate one of the tires on the stolen vehicle, leading to two suspects driving away at a slower rate of speed.
The vehicle was found five minutes later unoccupied in the 9600 block of 40th Street South in Lakewood, near a Pierce Transit Facilities building. According to Moss, moments later the deputies reported over the radio that the suspect had a gun before reporting shots fired.

No deputies were injured during the incident. Two deputies were placed on administrative leave per standard policy.
The Pierce County Force Investigation Team will be taking over the investigation.
