Police search for suspect who shot, killed 13-year-old boy in Kent

Witnesses reported seeing a group of young boys running away from the scene at Turnkey Park after the shooting.

KENT, Wash. — A 13-year-old boy was shot and killed at a park in Kent Tuesday night. 

The King County Medical Examiner's Office identified the boy as Matthew Stavkoviy. His cause of death was a gunshot wound to the torso and his death is ruled a homicide. 

According to the Kent Police Department, the shooting happened at Turnkey Park on 100th Avenue Southeast just after 9 p.m. The boy was shot in the abdomen then taken to a nearby apartment complex. 

Police then received 911 calls and responded to the apartment, where they tried to provide life-saving aid, but Stavkoviy died at the scene.

According to KPD, multiple witnesses saw the shooting happen at the park and reported seeing a group of young boys running from the scene.

Officers did find a stolen vehicle nearby and are working to determine if it was used in the shooting.
