KIRKLAND, Wash. — Fourteen people have been displaced after a driver crashed into an apartment building in Kirkland on Wednesday night.
Police said the driver was arrested Thursday under suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run after the crash.
The exterior and the staircase of the building were both damaged around 10:30 p.m. on June 26.
A man drove over a curb, through landscaping and into one of the buildings, according to the City of Kirkland. Witnesses told police they saw the driver reverse his car, hit the building again and then attempted to drive away from the scene. His car got stuck when he drove over more landscaping, the city said.
The Kirkland Fire Department had to help residents get down from the second floor because of the damage to the staircase.
No one was seriously injured and no one required transportation to the hospital, the city said.
