EVERETT, Wash. Snohomish County detectives have arrested two people accused in a string of riding lawn mower thefts, thanks to an ad on Craigslist.

The Snohomish County Auto Theft Task Force (SNOCAT) says John Deere lawn mowers valued at between $1,700 and $2,700 were stolen from Lowe's stores in Mount Vernon, Arlington and Lynnwood.

With the help of authorities in King County, SNOCAT arranged a meeting with someone trying to sell a John Deere riding lawn mower on Craigslist. Detectives believed it was one of the stolen mowers.

After meeting up with the seller in Renton, detectives say they confirmed the mower for sale was stolen from one of the Lowe's stores.

Detectives say they served a search warrant on the Federal Way home of two suspects a 39-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman. They found three more John Deere mowers, at least one of which was allegedly stolen from Lowe's.

The suspects face multiple felony charges. Detectives have not said how the suspects were able to steal the mowers.

SNOCAT is asking anyone who recently bought a John Deere riding lawn mower from a private party to call Detective Paul Ryan at (425) 388-6058. The suspects would likely have been driving a 2006 red Dodge pickup truck when selling the mowers.
