LAKEWOOD, Wash. — A 3-year-old boy died after falling into a septic tank in Lakewood Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
Pierce County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Darren Moss said the boy was playing with an older sibling in their backyard at a house in the 10300 block of 93rd Street Court SW.
Moss said the boy walked into the neighbor's yard, lifted the lid of the septic tank and fell in. There is no fence separating the homes, according to Moss.
Moss said the child's older sibling alerted their grandma, who was inside the home at the time. The family called 911 just after 2:15 p.m. and first responders helped rescue the boy just after 3 p.m. Moss said the boy was pronounced dead by emergency crews.
