This week is going to be a scorcher. Try one of these tips for staying cool while the mercury rises:
1.) Visit a Cooling Shelter or splash park in King, Pierce or Snohomish counties
Spray parks are sprinkled across Western Washington. Grab your suit and towel and boogie down to your nearest spray pad for some free family fun.
2.) Cool off at your local library
Along with copious books, Seattle Central Library has free public computers and wi-fi, a full calendar of events and, most importantly, air conditioning! Call ahead to inquire if you local library has air conditioning.
Most months in Western Washington don't warrant owning an air conditioner in your home. But they sure are a treat in these toasty summer months. You can make your own for less than $35 - in less than an hour!

The City of Seattle has more than 100 "shoreline street ends" - public streets that end on waterfronts available to anyone. Here are three hidden beaches that are practically a secret.
5.) Cool off with a strawberry popsicle - recipe by Seattle chef Makini Howell
Ingredients
1.5 cups chopped strawberries
.5 cups chopped kiwi
1 cup nondairy yogurt
2-3 tablespoons nondairy milk (Almond or Soy)
1 tablespoon (or to taste) agave
For a shake drink:
Core and slice fresh strawberries in half (skip the step if using frozen)
Combine all the ingredients in a blender
Blend until smooth
Pour into glass and enjoy!
To make popsicles:
Pour blended ingredients into small popsicle molds.
Put in freezer for 4 hours to set
