15-year-old shot three times in Auburn, recovering in hospital

Four teenage boys were walking to a nearby school to play basketball around 2:30 a.m. Saturday when at least 30 gunshots were fired.

AUBURN, Wash. — A 15-year-old is recovering in the hospital after being shot three times early Saturday morning.

Four teenage boys were walking to a nearby school to play basketball around 2:30 a.m. Saturday when a car approached and took off, then shortly after gunfire erupted.

At least 30 gunshots were heard in surveillance video obtained by KING 5.

Auburn police said a 16-year-old was shot in the leg and a 15-year-old was shot in the face, leg, and back. 15-year-old Talon is recovering in the hospital.

Auburn police are looking for the suspected shooter.

"No parent should ever have to go through this," said Derek Boudine, Talon's father. "No kid should ever have to go through this but he isn't looking for any kind of trouble. He was just looking to go play some basketball where there was some light."

Boudine said after he was shot three times, Talon managed to make it home.

"In the neighbor’s yard about four houses down he said he laid for a moment and thought, 'I’m not going to die' and ran to the house," Boudine said.

Once he got home, Boudine said Talon ran into his room and he woke up to a parent's worst nightmare.

"I close my eyes and I still see him bursting into my room with blood covering his face," Boudine said. "That is something I'm going to have to work through."

Talon was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center. The 15-year-old plays football, runs track, and loves to play basketball and do flips in his free time. All of that is on hold as his recovery is expected to last six months, but his parents said every day is an improvement.

"He's more alert and a lot more talkative and was able to take a few baby steps around so each day we're getting new progress," Boudine said.

His parents said despite everything, he hadn't lost his spirit.

"He still has his spirit," Boudine said. "He still jokes around. He has the doctors laughing he has all of us laughing. He's so incredibly strong and his strength is getting me through this."

"We're so grateful for him and for his will to survive," said Brittania Stocks, Talon's mother.

Talon's parents hope no other family will have to go through this.

"This is so terrible that we're having to walk this walk," Stock said. "Our 15-year-old got shot three times. That's insane to say."

Auburn Police said officers have pulled photos and videos from the scene and are following leads.

Family members have set up a GoFundMe to help with Talon's recovery.

"It's not fair to us," Boudine said. "It's not fair to those families who lose their children and something needs to change."
