Backlog of Narrows toll charges hits drivers

A few months ago, WSDOT announced a glitch in the tolling system, and temporarily halted the charges until a fix was in place. Now some customers say they're being hit with a huge number of backlogged charges with little or no notice.

SEATTLE Some Good to Go tolling customers say they are being hit with a huge number of backlogged charges, and they're being given little to no warning about it.

One of them is Della Slosar.

First it started with a stack of infractions she received one day in the mail.

Each of these was $52 and there were ten of them, said Slosar.

The Washington State Department of Transportation admitted to a widespread glitch in the system and said it would stop charging tolls temporarily. But over the last few months, Slosar had regular $30 charges to her account. And last month, charges started appearing in rapid sequence even three in one day.

Even if we both were crossing every day, seven days a week, it wouldn't add up to that, she said.

Slosar contacted customer service who told her they were charging her backlogged tolls and she should have received an email explaining it.

I said I had not received an email. I had not received a phone call, Slosar said.

KING 5 obtained a copy of the email WSDOT sent out. Buried in the fifth paragraph it says a result of this updating process, some customers may see some earlier ... tolls that have not yet been charged to their accounts.

WSDOT now admits others are complaining they didn't receive notification either.

Slosar was able to transfer money in order to avoid any bounced checks, but she said her trust in Good to Go is gone and she's now asking for a complete audit of her account.
