Devices found at Bellevue recycling station not pipe bombs

A homeowner was attempting to recycle devices made from pipes they crafted in an attempt to get rid of moles, according to Bellevue police.

Two devices found at a Bellevue recycling station were not pipe bombs, according to Bellevue police.

The devices were made from pipes and a homemade chemical mixture that was intended to create a plume to kill moles, according to Bellevue police. One of the devices ruptured, injuring the homeowner. The homeowner's wife dropped the remaining devices off at the transfer station, not understanding what they were, police said.

Employees at the Factoria Recycling & Transfer Station were alarmed by the appearance of the devices and the report that they had injured someone and called the police.

Bellevue police responded shortly after 3 p.m. to the recycling center located at 13800 Southeast Street. The station was evacuated while officers investigated.

Crews with the bomb squad responded and "neutralized" the two devices, believing they were pipe bombs.
