BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Boundary Bay Brewery in Bellingham, the city's first craft brewery, will close next year.

The owners announced the closure on social media Friday afternoon. Visitors will still have some time to enjoy the establishment as it is expected to officially close in September 2025.

Boundary Bay Brewery opened in downtown Bellingham in 1995 and many people loved the family-friendly open-air taproom and award-winning beers. It is one of the several breweries in Bellingham that earned the city its nickname “Brewingham."

"Being a part of the Bellingham community and sharing our love of craft beer with you has been an honor," the owners wrote on social media. "For 30 years, we have been able to create memories, magic, and a lot of beer within these walls. We hope the Boundary Bay legacy of commitment to the community continues beyond our time on Railroad Avenue."

According to the post, owners Ed Barrett and Janet Lightner are ready to retire. They said they explored many options for the future of the brewery, but the building's owner also put it up for sale.

They also said they have several events planned in the coming months to celebrate the business and the beer. More information is on their website.
