BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- A Bellingham man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly assaulted two veterinary employees following the death of his cat.
Police said the 57-year-old man arrived at Maplewood Animal Hospital in Bellingham Thursday morning, where he tried to stab a veterinarian with one kitchen knife and threatened front desk staff with another before fleeing in his car. The man blamed veterinarians for the death of his cat, investigators said.
While officers searched for the suspect, he arrived at Fountain Veterinary Hospital on Meridian Street and stabbed an employee in the neck. She was treated at the scene and her injuries were not life-threatening, according to Bellingham Fire Department medics.
The man was later stopped in his vehicle on East Bakerview Road, where he told an officer he was heading to the police station to turn himself in.
The suspect was booked into Whatcom County Jail on two counts of assault in the first degree and two counts of possessing weapons capable of producing bodily harm.
