Boeing breaks new ground by flying the very first commercial flight using 100 percent biofuel.
A FedEx 777 Freighter made the first flight Sunday to FedEx headquarters in Memphis then returned on Monday to register the second. Other biofuel flights used a blend.
This plane is being used for testing. In normal service, the FAA allows the use of blended bio and petroleum-based jet fuels up to 50 percent.
This could advance the ball considerably as airlines try to avoid the volatility that has long accompanied traditional oil-based Jet A fuel.
