Father dies, 10-year-old son hospitalized after incident at Bremerton's Wildcat Lake

Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a report of a drowning at the lake the evening of July 11.

BREMERTON, Wash. — A father is dead and his 10-year-old son is in the hospital after an incident at the Wildcat Lake boat launch in Bremerton on July 11.

Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue was sent to the lake for reports of the boy and father under water around 6:40 p.m. Initial information coming in "depicted a chaotic scene," CKF&R wrote in a statement.

There were conflicting reports of where the incident occurred: Wildcat Lake Park or the boat launch. It was eventually determined to be the boat launch.

Witnesses reported last seeing the two in front of the boat launch, possibly under lily pads.

CPR was given to the man before he was taken to Saint Michael Medical Center where he was declared dead.

The man's son was also transported for "near drowning."

The exact cause of the incident is under investigation.
