KEYPORT, Wash. — Naval Base Kitsap-Keyport reopened after being locked down over concerns of a suspicious package found during a random vehicle inspection at a security gate on Wednesday.
The gate area was secured and security cordoned the area off to the public around 2 p.m., according to the Navy. All personnel were told to avoid the area.
The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody and questioned by Navy Security Forces.
Around 3:45 p.m., a bomb unit arrived on scene and determined the objects in question were not a threat. Navy security and the bomb unit determined the objects were camera components with wires and batteries "that appeared to be possible improvised explosive device components."
