Skate Like A Girl fundraises for new skate park after former space destroyed in bus crash

Three months ago, a King County Metro bus crashed into the nonprofit's former facility. No one was injured.

SEATTLE — More than three months after a King County Metro bus slammed into the warehouse where the nonprofit Skate Like a Girl stood, donations to help the organization have fallen short.

Skate Like a Girl makes a huge impact with around 500 people using their skills and services on average every week.

“We just need something to help us jumpstart,” said Kristin Ebeling. They still need about $30,000 to reach their fundraising goal.

“If they believe in skateboarding as a powerful tool for young people, we could use some extra hands and deep pockets,” Ebeling said.

On Thursday night, people of all ages practiced at the All Together Skate Park in Fremont. They all belong to Skate Like a Girl, an organization that lost its own park only months ago. The bus was hit by a car and then swerved, crashing into a wall of their former facility.

The bus was lodged into the building for more than a week before it was removed. Now, the building will now be demolished.

Ebeling has been skating since she was 12. She knows the impact skating can have firsthand.

“I love that skateboarding is creative. It’s all about tinkering and taking something that feels impossible and making it possible over time,” Ebeling said.

They hope to continue to teach others the sport they love.

“We are really excited about the momentum that we have you know. We hope we can get that space going,” Ebeling said.
