STEVENSCOUNTY, Wash. -- KREM News talked with the 8-year-old Colville girl who was found after two days alone in the woods in northern Stevens County. Paige Wilson got separated from her family while camping Friday.
Monday the little girl and her mother spoke about the frightening ordeal. It was a nerve racking experience, depending on who you ask. Paige s parents and some of the rescuers say yes, but the little girl says not so. Paige s mom told her daughter that a lot of people were thinking about her and praying for her when she was lost in the woods.
Late Friday afternoon, Paige went camping with her grandfather. She became separated from her cousins while playing at the Flodelle Creek Campground located 20 miles east of Colville. Authorities and search and rescue crews from more than a dozen agencies launched a massive search.
Paige spent 40 hours lost in the woods, two long nights, with the temperatures dipping just above freezing. She was wearing only shorts and a t-shirt.Paige saidshe got lost and just started walking. But she says she wasn t scared and didn t cry.
Both of her arms were cut, scratched and bleeding, with blisters forming on her feet, but little Paige kept walking, but apparently farther away from camp. Paige says she saw a bear and cows.
Alan Crawford is a family friend and volunteer with the search and rescue crew who found Paige around 9am Sunday. She was walking along a gravel road about three miles from camp. Crawford gave her food, something to drink, and took her to authorities. Paige s dad called her mom with the good news.
Doctors treated Paige at the hospital for dehydration and a mild case of hypothermia. Paige s mom says she wants to thank everyone who searched for Paige and brought her home safely.
