Since 1942, Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra has been dedicated to providing talented musical students of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds with life-changing musical experiences. Hungarian violinist Francis Aranyi conducted the first musical student group on the steps of Harvard Exit movie theatre on Capitol Hill in 1943, and since, SYSO has grown to become one of the leading youth orchestra organizations in the nation. SYSO works with more than 1,600 students every year to teach and prepare them for public concerts.
The donation from KING 5 will help fund a grant benefiting 440 students with 35 or more musical lessons during their school year.
"My coach was kind and serious about her work. I appreciate her work and she is really good at teaching us and gave us great advice on what to do and what not to do." - Southwest Seattle String Project student
