Two women killed in separate Thurston County homicides, deputies say

One woman died in a house fire and another woman was killed after a road rage incident, sheriff's office says.

OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two separate homicides that occurred on Saturday morning.

Officials responded to a house fire around 8:30 a.m. near Cooper Point Road and 41st Lane Northwest in Olympia. As firefighters extinguished the fire, they discovered a body inside the home, according to Lt. Mike Brooks, public information officer for the sheriff’s office.

The McLane Black Lake Fire Department said the deceased person was a woman, but did not provide an exact age. Several agencies responded to the fire, including the Thurston County Fire District 13, Lacey Fire District 3, Olympia Fire Department, West Thurston Regional Fire Authority, Tumwater Fire Department and the Washington State Patrol.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said detectives were called in after the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death seemed suspicious.

A second killing occurred just before 11 a.m. near Bridge Road Southeast near Yelm. The collision began as a road rage incident and the suspect car collided with the victim’s car, pushing the car off the road, Brooks said.

A woman died at the scene, Brooks said. Information on her age was not immediately available.

Sheriff’s deputies have identified a person of interest and are working to identify them, he said.
