Deputies rescue dozens in Lewis County floods

Woman credits deputies, quick thinking for saving her life.
Lewis County Sheriff Rob Snaza said this week's flooding is the worst in his county since 2007, when water over I-5 shut down the freeway for several days.

RANDLE, Wash. -- Catrenna Sorrels thinks looking out her front door may have saved her life.

She's grateful to Lewis County deputies too.

"Thank the Lord," Sorrel said from the Randle Motel, where she and her husband are staying with their recently evacuated dogs and cats.

The Sorrels were about to go to bed around 1 a.m. Wednesday when Catrenna thought she better check on how the Cispus River was doing in the heavy rains.

"I opened up the front door and I'm like, 'Honey you better get out here,'" said Sorrels.

When they could not make it out of their driveway, they called 911 and were rescued by deputies about an hour later.

A spokesperson for the Lewis County Sheriff's Office said deputies helped evacuate "dozens" from homes in Packwood and Randle.

No injuries were reported.

Lewis County Sheriff Rob Snaza said this week's flooding is the worst in his county since 2007, when water over I-5 shut down the freeway for several days.

For the Sorells, who moved to Lewis County last year, it was the worst flood they've ever experienced.

They hope their home survived.

"If we have things when we get home, I'll be happy," said Sorrels, "If not, I'm grateful we're alive."
