PUYALLUP, Wash. — A male suspect wanted for "several violent felonies" was shot and killed by law enforcement near South Hill Mall in Puyallup on Tuesday afternoon.
The shooting occurred next to a state Route 512 ramp, according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.
Several deputies fired their weapons at the suspect, according to the Pierce County Force Investigation Team.
According to preliminary information from Lakewood police Sergeant Charles Porche, a group of Pierce County investigators were searching for the suspect. When they found him, the suspect drove off and a short pursuit ensued.
Spike strips were deployed and made contact with the suspect vehicle's tires.
When the suspect's vehicle came to a stop, he exited the vehicle armed with a handgun, according to Porche.
Deputies say there were other people in the suspect's car at the time of the shooting. None of them were hurt and they are being questioned by authorities.
Authorities have not released any details about the "several violent felonies" the man was suspected of.
No deputies or nearby civilians were injured, according to information from the Investigation Team.
The eastbound SR 512 exit to 31st Avenue Southwest and access to State Route 161 and Meridian were blocked while the investigation was underway. The road has since reopened.
