SEATTLE - Community members gathered Saturday night to honor the late Donnie Chin.
The International Community Health Services awarded Chin at the Bloom Gala.
Organizers described Chin's lengthy contributions; including guiding police and fire crews through streets and escorting people late at night.
Chin received the Bamboo Award for Health, for his dedication to the safety of Seattle's International District.
Family members were in attendance to accept the award and pay tribute to his years of service.
"Donnie was the heart and soul of the [International District]. He did whatever he could to make sure things in the [International District] ran smoothly and that people were safe," said his sister, Connie, while accepting the award on his behalf.
Donnie Chin lived in the International District for nearly 40 years.
He was shot and killed last July. No arrests have been made.
