SEATTLE Visitors to Olympic National Park are being advised not to pee near trails or face the risk of being attacked by mountain goats.
The warning, reported by Adventure Journal, comes after a 63-year-old man was gored by a 370 pound male goat last year and died.
The National Park Service determined that the 300 goats in the park are used to humans now and that they are attracted to human urine because of the salt in it. The park is enacting a new policy, asking visitors to limit peeing to at least 200 feet from marked trails. Visitors are also advised to stay at least 50 yards away from goats.
The park also plans to close trails where goats gather or follow people and close trails for up to two weeks where goats have shown to be aggressive. There are also reportedly contingencies to kill goats, if necessary.
Last month, park officials reportedly had to shoot an aggressive adult elk that was staking rangers and charged a tent and a park patrol car.
