Trespassers who were spotted on recent drone footage of the Rattlesnake Ridge slide area are risking their safety and arrest, according to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office.
Several people were seen walking amongst deep cracks on the ridge in footage shot by Steven Mack on Sunday, as first reported by the Yakima Herald.
The slide area is located on private property, and trespassers could face second-degree trespass, which could carry up to a $10,000 fine and a year in jail if convicted, the Herald reported.
Authorities first detected the crack in October, and the slide has grown to cover an area of 20 acres. The slide is moving at about 1.6 feet per week, which has been consistent since December 20, according to a Washington Department of Geological Resources spokesman.
