One person died and three others were injured Thursday after a six-vehicle crash on the SR 104 Hood Canal Bridge, according to the Washington State Patrol. Troopers were looking into whether the driver who allegedly caused the crash was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The crash happened at about 5 p.m. Thursday at the bridge's mid-span.
Troopers say a gray 2010 GMC Sierra pickup truck was seen swerving and being driven erratically before approaching the bridge. The truck crossed the center line and hit several oncoming vehicles before colliding with a 2005 Ford Ranger head-on. The driver of the Ford Ranger, 65-year-old Debra Clyde, died at the scene.
A medical helicopter responded to the area to transport the driver of the Sierra to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The bridge was closed to traffic for about eight hours. It reopened just before 1 a.m. Friday.
Five passenger vehicles and one unloaded flatbed commercial vehicle were involved in the crash.
Troopers said of the three injured, one was critical, one was serious, and the other person had a minor injury.
WSDOT says the bridge did not suffer any structural damage from the crash.
