Law enforcement in Pierce and Kitsap County will conduct a special impaired driving emphasis patrol Saturday, Feb. 17.
This emphasis patrol is dedicated Clancy O’Connor, a victim of a vehicle vs. motorcycle collision that occurred Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015.
Clancy and his wife Mary O'Connor have an undeniable bond. The two have been married for 34 years, but the crash two years ago put them through one of the toughest moment of their lives.
Clancy was returning home from his job at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, operating his motorcycle, when he was struck by an impaired female driver. She meth and alcohol in her system at the time of the crash.
"They said from where her car impacted my motorcycle to where I came to rest in the oncoming lanes of traffic was 107 feet," he said.
Clancy suffered through 10 broken ribs, a lacerated liver, a collapsed lung, and a lacerated kidney.
The O'Connor family is sharing their story in hopes that people will make different choices after drinking or using drugs and getting behind the wheel.
Marsha Masters with the Kitsap County Sheriff's office keeps track of the number of people hit by drivers under the influence.
She wants to bring that number to zero.
