EDMONDS, Wash. — A man who attacked his sleeping wife with a hammer in Edmonds was found dead in Seattle, police said Wednesday.
Edmonds police said the man, 73, began attacking his 68-year-old wife as she was sleeping early Wednesday morning. The woman eventually escaped to a neighbor's house, and the suspect fled the scene.
The woman suffered severe injuries and was treated at a local hospital before being released, police say.
The Washington State Patrol (WSP) located the suspect's vehicle along southbound Interstate 5 in Seattle around 5:30 a.m. The suspect was eventually found dead on the ground below the Ship Canal Bridge where the vehicle was left.
Police say the preliminary investigation found that the man had fallen from the bridge above where his vehicle was found. Police said there were no signs of foul play, and that confirmation on the cause of death and identity of the suspect will be determined by the King County Medical Examiner's Office.
Edmonds police say the investigation continues.
