ENUMCLAW, Wash. — A building that was leaning toward the sidewalk in downtown Enumclaw forced the city to close nearby streets Monday.
A city employee notified the Enumclaw Police Department around 1:30 p.m. of the unstable building near Railroad Street and Griffin Avenue.
The building is at risk of collapse, according to the Enumclaw Fire Department.
The building is set to be demolished Wednesday.
Police assessed damage to the building using a drone.
Officers closed all roads within 75 feet of the building since it was leaning out toward the sidewalk. The streets are expected to be closed until further notice, the police department said.
Street closures include:
- Railroad Street between Initial Avenue and Myrtle Avenue
- Griffin Avenue between First Street and Cole Street
The fire department said the response would be a "lengthy mitigation" and that crews would be on the scene "for some time."
Additional agencies are helping Enumclaw police with the response, including Washington State Patrol, the Washington State Department of Transportation and Puget Sound Energy.
