4 injured in overnight shooting in Everett; suspect still at large

A man who lives nearby said he was woken up by the shooting, and police later notified him that there were bullet holes in his car.

EVERETT, Wash. — Four people were injured in a shooting that took place in south Everett on Tuesday night.

All four victims are receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Police responded to reports of a shooting at 805 West Casino Road around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday. Two males with gunshot wounds were found near the scene.

Two other people with gunshot wounds later arrived at Providence Hospital.

Witnesses told police they heard multiple gunshots, and the suspects appeared to flee the scene before police arrived.

Police K-9s and a helicopter helped look for a suspect, but they were unable to find anyone.

A portion of Casino Road was closed for several hours during the initial investigation. Numerous shell casings were collected from the scene.

Police believe all but one of the people involved in the shooting knew each other. Their relationship is under investigation.

Mike Schumm and his seven roommates were in the line of fire when gunshots rang out directly outside their home just after 11 p.m.

Schumm said the gun violence is hitting far too close to home.

"That's the thing I'm scared of most, being caught in the crossfire," said Schumm. "I worry about them shooting up our neighborhood and hitting my house and somebody getting hit in our house."

The Casino Road area has been plagued with gangs and violence over the years. Neighbors said things had been getting better, but over the past two years, the community has started slipping back to its old ways.

"They all hit the floor and stuff," said Schumm. "It's scary."

Isreal Smith, who lives nearby where the shooting took place, was woken up by the gunshots.

"I was actually sleeping and I heard the shooting, so I hit the floor and heard a bunch of commotion," Smith said. "It was pretty nuts."

Police arrived to investigate the shooting and told people who lived nearby to stay inside, Smith said. They also notified him that there were multiple bullet holes in his car.

"Craziness in this neighborhood," Smith said.

Smith said he's heard a few shootings over the last few months, but there hasn't been one this close to his home before.
