EVERETT, Wash. – A police SWAT team forced a teen, suspected of shooting two other teens, out of an Everett apartment Friday morning. They took him into custody, ending a four-hour standoff.
The Snohomish County Sheriff's Department said the 17-year-old suspect was treated for minor injuries after SWAT used an aerosol irritant to force him out around 6:30 a.m.
He was booked into juvenile corrections on two counts of first degree assault with a firearm.
The manhunt started Thursday after a boy and girl were shot near Discovery Elementary School Thursday night. A 17-year-old boy was in critical condition and his 14-year-old sister was in satisfactory condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The shooting was reported around 6:30 p.m. Thursday on a field behind the school basketball courts. No one from the school, including staff and students, were injured or involved.
The suspect admitted to detectives that he was wearing red to represent his gang affiliation and confronted the male victim because he was Hispanic and wearing blue shorts -- the color of the suspect's rival gang.
The suspect said he shot the boy when he didn't respond to his accusations of "repping blue." The suspect then shot the male victim's sister after she yelled at him.
A custodian from Discovery Elementary was the first to arrive after the shooting and helped the two victims until fire units arrived, according to police.
The standoff began around 2 a.m. at an apartment in the 1500 block of 115th Street SW.
Investigators said they are also searching for three females who were reportedly with the gunman at the time of the shooting.
School is expected to be in session on Friday.
