Fire breaks out at Everett apartment building, injuring 3

Over 20 people were displaced, and a dozen units were damaged.

EVERETT, Wash. — A fire that broke out in an Everett apartment building Friday morning injured three people, according to the Everett Fire Department.

The fire was at Fulton Crossing Apartments at 120 SE Everett Mall Way. Smoke and flames were visible from the second and third floors of the building. Witnesses told dispatchers that people were calling for help.

When crews arrived, they found the fire had spread to the stairwell and attic.

It took 90 minutes to fight the fire, the department said.

All three people, who were in their 50s, have non-life-threatening injuries. Firefighters used a ladder to rescue one person, and one person was able to escape on their own. Before crews arrived, another male resident had jumped from a third-floor balcony to a safe location due to active fire conditions. Two pets were also rescued by firefighters.

Crews said two of the injured people had already evacuated but went back into smoke-filled apartment units to rescue pets and belongings.

A section of the roof was severely damaged, according to the Red Cross. Four apartment units on the third-floor have extensive damage, and eight units on the second and ground floors have smoke and water damage, according to the fire department.

Over 20 adults were displaced. The Red Cross is helping anyone impacted with shelter, food, clothing and other urgent needs.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
