PUYALLUP, Wash. — Fans packed a Puyallup bar on Friday night to cheer on the South Hill All-Stars in the Little League World Series, which is being played more than 2,000 miles away in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
"We have to support them, our sons play with a lot of them and we have to show them we're here supporting them and watching them 100 percent," said Shelby Smith.
The team, made up of mostly 12-year-olds, was defeated by Florida 6-1.
"They'll get 'em next time," Smith said.
The team now plays under the Washington banner, representing the Northwest region in the tournament. They face elimination on Sunday.
The Loose Wheel in Puyallup hosted an official watch party on Friday, welcoming several adults and youth athletes who also play in the South Hill Little League system.
"I'm just excited for them, I hope they win this. I just can't believe I see Washington in the Little League World Series. It's just crazy to me," said 11-year-old Cooper Mendenhall.
For the younger players, this magical run by the all-stars has given them hope for their own future.
"I just really wanna go to the series for the experience. I want to know what it's like to play with a bunch of elite players," he said.
Sunday's game is scheduled for 10 a.m. PDT. Washington's opponent will be determined on Saturday.
