DES MOINES, Wash. — The FBI announced it is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the recovery of a missing Des Moines teen.
Shelbie Lynn Dwyer, 18, is believed to be in Mexico. She was last heard from on March 29, 2023, when she was believed to be in Guamuchil, Sinaloa.
Dwyer left her home in Des Moines voluntarily on March 25, 2023, and traveled to Mexico by car. She had communication with her family for the first few days, which stopped on March 29.
"She went out there with a friend she thought she trusted, and she never came back,” her mother, Stacy Hurt, told KING 5 last month.
At that time, in that area, the U.S. state department had a travel advisory warning of violent crime and kidnappings. She was 17 years old when she left.
"I love her, and I miss her, and I think about her every day, and I just want her to come home,” Hurt said in May. "Just not knowing where she is at breaks my heart. I am having hope and faith that she comes home. I am not giving up hope. I am not doing that."
Dwyer has three identifiable tattoos: a rose on her right hand, a design that looks like a musical note on her middle finger on her right hand, and the word "blessed" across her right forearm.
Anyone with information about Dwyer is urged to contact their local FBI office, American embassy or consulate or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov.
