Authorities investigating shooting involving Federal Way police

Police said the incident began when officers responded to an apartment complex for a domestic violence incident.

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Authorities are investigating after a man was shot by Federal Way police at an apartment complex Sunday morning.

According to the Federal Way Police Department, officers responded to the Kitts Corner Apartments, located at 1201 S. 336th St, for a domestic violence incident with shots being fired. 

Arriving officers reportedly found a man on an apartment's patio armed with a firearm. At some point during the interaction, two police officers fired their weapons, striking the man. Police said the man, 42, was transported to the hospital.

No other injuries were reported.

The officers were placed on administrative leave, per department policy. 

The Valley Independent Investigation Team is investigating the incident.
