Federal Way apartment fire leaves dog dead, one hospitalized and multiple people displaced

Red Cross is providing assistance to support impacted residents.

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — A fire at a Federal Way apartment building has left a dog dead, one person hospitalized and multiple residents displaced. 

Crews continue to battle the fire that was reported just before 1:40 p.m. in the 34000 block of First Circle South.

When crews arrived, they found a four-unit apartment building on fire, with one unit completely engulfed in flames. 

There were reports of someone trapped on the second floor of the unit and crews conducted a search. That's when they discovered the dog, who died of smoke inhalation. Nobody else was located, according to Brad Chaney with South King Fire.

Red Cross is providing assistance to support impacted residents. 

It's unknown how many units have been impacted.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
