The ferry Tacoma was back in service Saturday evening after a delay due to a medical emergency on board.

The ferry lost power on a run between Bainbridge Island and Seattle on Friday.

The Tacoma was en route to Seattle from Bainbridge Island when it lost propulsion, say officials. Tug boats managed to push the ferry into Colman Dock, where hundreds of ferry passengers packed the terminal.

By early Friday evening, the ferry system had diverted the ferry Issaquah from the Fauntleroy-Vashon-Southworth run to the Seattle-Bainbridge Island run.

Ferry system spokeswoman Susan Harris said the cause of the Tacoma's problem is under investigation. Harris tells The Seattle Times it "appears to have something to do with the drive motors."

Harris said there were about 500 people and 140 cars on board at the time.

On Saturday morning, Harris said crews worked on the Tacoma all night.

The ferry Tacoma was out of service for over six months after it lost power during a run last July. After it underwent lengthy repairs that cost $1.8 million, the 460-foot vessel was put back into service in March.
