TACOMA, Wash. -- A two-alarm fire early Thursday burned the old Heidelberg brewery building in Tacoma.

Tacoma Fire Department officials said the fire started just after midnight at the old Columbia-Heidelberg brewery building, located at 2120 South C St. The building was vacant and set for destruction. No one was injured.

After arriving on the scene, firefighters quickly went into a defensive mode due to structural and safety concerns.

Fire crews also scrambled to keep flames away from a nearby storage building for Pierce County Toys for Tots, where about 25,000 toys are stored.

We're doing our best to protect it from catching on fire and minimizing any damage to those products, said Joe Meinicke, Tacoma Fire Department.

Toys for Tots organizers are concerned about possible smoke and water damage to the toys. They said they need 55,000 toys in time for Christmas. They planned to assess the damage once firefighters give them the all-clear.
