The Seahawks loss on Sunday didn't carry over into Monday for a roomful of seniors at Lakewood Senior Activity Center. They came to meet two former Seahawks players: Norm Johnson and Hillary Butler.
"Their family doesn't visit them; their friends don't visit them, or maybe most of their friends are gone. That's a tough thing to be alone," said Johnson, who volunteered with 12 Days of Goodness.
Answers for Elders, a resource website for senior care, partnered with the NFL Alumni Association to create 12 Days of Goodness, where football legends connect with local seniors.
"I wrote the Seahawks three years ago, and I asked for their help." said Suzanne Newman, who organized the gathering. "12 Days of Goodness is about raising awareness that 60% of seniors are without regular visitors. They've become the forgotten members of society, and that's not right."
Monday is a reminder for those young and old this holiday season.
"So many of us have a senior loved one you know that many be in skilled care,” Newman said. “Will you be more mindful and remember who they are?”
