Free shuttle service in place along Seattle Waterfront

A new shuttle in Seattle offers free rides between Pioneer Square and the Space Needle.

It’s the free service you may not know exists.

The Downtown Seattle Association is providing shuttle service, between Pioneer Square and the Space Needle, 10 hours a day, 7 days a week.

It charges riders nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

“It says free right on the side, so there is no mystery as to what it is,” said DSA President Jon Scholes.

There are five shuttles running during those hours, running between nine stops on the route.

“As we’re taking the viaduct down, there has been significant impacts to construction, and access to the waterfront, so we’re looking for ways to allow for a free ride,” said Scholes.

The project was funded by State Mitigation dollars, and with an assist from MTR Western, which is providing the shuttles. Scholes said the program will run through October 1, but it is also labeled a “pilot project”, meaning it could be extended depending on ridership levels.

More than 8,000 people took rides on the shuttle in the first couple of weeks of service.
