MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. — Some of the best Christmas gifts can't be wrapped.
That may be the case for a Tahoma School District sixth grader battling leukemia, whose friends created a special surprise for her. Several of Ella Czarnowski's friends came together to lift her spirits during the holidays.
Ella will be recovering from a bone marrow transplant over Christmas, so her friends filmed a music video featuring an extra special Christmas carol they wrote for her.
"We're just doing this for her to show her we love her so much with all of our hearts," one friend said.
The group of girls have been friends for quite some time and have been there for Ella since she was diagnosed with cancer two years ago.
"They were pretty upset about her being in the hospital over Christmas time, so they just wanted to do something special to lift her spirits," Stephanie Bailey, a mom of one of the girls, said.
The five friends put the whole show together, from writing the lyrics to playing the instruments. They even donned matching, festive outfits complete with plaid shirts and reindeer antlers.
"I know the first thing she's going to say is, 'Their outfits are cute!'" One friend laughed.
"It's hard to say no, not run with their sweet ideas and make them come true," Bailey said. "We hope she loves it."
"We just really want to let her know we care about her, we love her and we just want her to know that we're always going to be here for her."
"This is totally what Christmas is all about," Bailey said.
