Helmet cam shows Everett firefighters 'live training' on house fire

Washington state requires firefighters to go through live fire training every three years.

Everett firefighters conducted 'live fire training' at a building slated for demolition.

A realistic but controlled fire was set inside an unused building at 3400 Norton Avenue on Tuesday. This is a less expensive training method than sending firefighters to a training facility outside their district.

"Typically we use the facility in North Bend for that, which is not exactly a great simulation of a residential fire," said Chief Dave Demarco. "It's also real expensive, logistically, to put all of the firefighters up there."

Washington state requires live training every three years.

This year, the Everett Elks Lodge #479 donated their old building for live firefighter training. KING 5 photojournalist Tim Hahn equipped a firefighter with a GoPro helmet cam to provide an inside look at the training.
