JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. A company of soldiers at Joint Base Lewis-McChord remained under lockdown Monday after $600,000 in sensitive military equipment went missing.
Since last Tuesday, about 100 soldiers with the 4th Stryker Brigade have been confined to one building on the base and are not being allowed to go home until the investigation is complete.
Military police are investigating the disappearance of hundreds of pieces of weapon attachments they say were stolen, including rifle scopes, laser sights and night vision goggles. JBLM said no weapons or ammunition were taken.
The wife of a JBLM soldier told KING 5 Monday morning that the lockdown was expanded to include everyone on base. A JBLM spokesperson said that's not the case.
A petition by a group called March Forward, a group of veterans and service members against war and racism, is being circulated to end the lockdown. March Forward argues the lockdown is unfair and blames the military for not maintaining control of sensitive items.
