John Stockton files lawsuit over COVID sanctions

Stockton joined several medical professionals in the lawsuit against Attorney General Bob Ferguson and Washington Medical Commission Executive Director Kyle Karinen.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Former Gonzaga basketball player John Stockton has filed a lawsuit against Attorney General Bob Ferguson and Washington Medical Commission Executive Director Kyle Karinen over state sanctions on doctors who spread alleged misinformation on COVID-19.

Stockton is joined by several other medical professionals in the lawsuit, including retired ophthalmologist Richard Eggleston of Clarkston. According to the lawsuit, Eggleston is currently the subject of a Medical Commission administrative proceeding for his alleged misinformation on COVID.

"The purpose of this lawsuit is to protect the right of physicians to speak, and the right of the public to hear their message," the lawsuit said. "The goal is to stop the Commission from investigating, prosecuting or sanctioning physicians who speak out in public against the so-called “mainstream Covid narrative,” i.e., the succession of public health edicts put out by the CDC and repeated by the primary news outlets, which has caused the public to lose trust in the public health authorities, which has caused the CDC to repeatedly apologize and promise to do better."

This lawsuit isn't Stockton's first instance of criticizing the response to the pandemic. The former Gonzaga and NBA star participated in the documentary, "COVID and the Vaccine: Truth Lies, and Misconceptions Revealed," which doubts the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine. Stockton was also suspended from Gonzaga basketball games when he refused to wear a mask.
