A convicted killer took the stand Tuesday to try to convince a jury to spare his life. Joseph McEnroe killed six members of the Anderson family back in 2007. The trial is currently in the penalty phase and today McEnroe faced cross examination.
McEnroe was on the stand for most of the afternoon. At times it became fairly contentious with the prosecutor trying to point out contradictions and lies that McEnroe had told.
At one point, he pressed McEnroe about why he shot the entire family.
"I was not thinking only any logical level, I'm not trying to excuse myself, there is no excuse for something like this," McEnroe said.
McEnroe went on to maintain that he killed the family to protect Anderson and that she convinced him that it was something that had to be done.
The prosecutor said that Michelle Anderson never told McEnroe that he had to kill the two children.
McEnroe admitted to shooting both Olivia and Nathan
At one point McEnroe became frustrated and lashed out.
"You know what.. (expletive) it if you want to kill me, kill me I'm trying to laid out what actually happened if that doesn't work for me I don't care," he said. "I don't care OK, (expletive). Anyway as far as the kids go I had tried time and time again."
McEnroe is due back on the stand Wednesday. He has already been convicted by the jury - now they are deciding between life in prison or the death penalty..
