KENT, Wash. — The Kent Police Department is investigating an attempted kidnapping that happened Friday night.
Kent police said that on Friday, July 19, shortly before 11 p.m., officers were called to an apartment on 700 E James St after a 911 caller reported a man reached into their window and grabbed their young daughter.
The girl's parents told police she was in the bathroom when an unknown male reached into the window, threatened her, grabbed her hair, and tried to pull her through the window.
Police said the suspect took off and Kent police, multiple K9 teams and King County Guardian 1 helicopter searched for the suspect.
Chelsea Sadlovsky and Cody Stevens live nearby and heard the search from overhead.
“I remember that distinctly listening to the helicopters, shut the doors, and make sure we aren’t going outside right now,” said Chelsea Sadlovsky.
“We heard the helicopter asking someone to come out, that there was a dog, they would get bit, and after that announcement, we heard the helicopter for quite a while,” said Cody Stevens.
The details also came as a shock to the couple.
“Coming from Seattle, I generally consider it a little more safe, more secure, more of a small-town vibe. To hear something like this is happening in our backyard, so to speak is concerning,” Stevens said.
This happened three days after a separate attempted kidnapping in Kent where three 11-year-old girls stopped a man from taking a 6-year-old girl in an apartment complex where they lived. The man in that case has been charged with kidnapping and is in custody.
In the latest case, KPD detectives were back out Monday, asking people who live in the area for surveillance video.
Police are asking people to check their security cameras before and after 10:46 p.m. on July 19 for footage of the suspect. Anyone with information about the case is asked to message or call Kent police at KPDTipLine@kentwa.gov or call their Tip Line at 253-856-5808.
